Also defined as the Planning Stage.

The process of data gathering in both tedious and time-consuming.  Why?  Mainly, because the end user only ever gives us part of the story.  Why? Primarily because they do not understand the processes involved and what is actually relevant.  And, should they?  Simply, no!  That's why we take on that role in this step of the process.  We believe the role of Data Gathering is to be extracted from the users by "fair means or foul!"  Yes, by whatever means is necessary to gather the data required to create a workable database is mainly our responsibility (nothwithstanding false or misleading information given to us!) and hence the reason for it being tedious and time-consuming.

We achieve it by several means, including asking pertinant questions that are designed to trip the user into giving answers that make us doubt their ability to answer properly!  Mean?  Yes, but we have said "fair means or foul!", so we offer no apologies, but we do it discreetly, so as not to offend or diminish anyone.

So, when we seem to ask you the same question in ten different ways, the aim is to get as full a picture as possible and obtain the correct data for us to be able to commence with the design of your database.

We have prepared a form for you to fill out to commence the process, which can be found in the forms section, look under Application Forms -> My Situation from the main menu.
